GAME NOTES: The Spartans of UNC Greensboro take aim at back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they challenge the Furman Paladins in Southern Conference play on Sunday afternoon.

UNCG has won a total of just four games this year and only two of those have come versus Division I foes. The latest triumph was a 71-52 thrashing of Wofford at home on Wednesday, snapping a two-game slide and moving the squad to 2-3 in league action.

The Paladins, who have the same overall record as UNCG (4-12), were last in action on Thursday night versus Elon and were held below 60 points for the sixth time in eight outings during a 73-59 defeat. The loss was the seventh in the last eight contests for Furman, which beat Wofford as well last week, 69-65.

Heading into this meeting, Furman owns a slight 11-10 advantage in the all- time series against the Spartans.

Bobby Austin came up with 19 points in just 22 minutes for the Paladins three nights ago, shooting a perfect 3-of-3 behind the 3-point line and 6-of-8 from the floor overall, but it wasn't nearly enough as Furman took the hit versus Elon on the road. Colin Reddick added 18 points for the visitors, but they were outscored in the paint, 42-16, and watched the Phoenix score 22 points off their 15 turnovers. On a squad that is producing just 61.1 ppg over the course of 16 contests, Reddick is the lone double-digit scorer with his 12.3 ppg. He is also first on the glass with close to six rebounds per game as well.

Trailing by three points six minutes into the meeting with Wofford earlier this week, UNCG dialed up the effort and shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, en route to a 43-30 edge at the break that eventually turned into a 19-point home win. Trevis Simpson dropped in a game-high 19 points, followed by Derrell Armstrong who came up a rebound shy of a double-double as he tallied 16 points, hoping to offset his five turnovers. Off the bench, Kelvin McNeil responded with 13 points, six boards the three steals as the team forced 17 turnovers. Simpson (18.4 ppg) and Armstrong (16.8 ppg) are both key figures on an offense that is posting 73.8 ppg, but still this is a group that is being outscored by almost three points per contest due to the fact that they have watched opponents sink 100 more free throws (326-226).

If the Spartans continue to allow teams to parade to the foul line the defeats will continue to mount. However, Furman doesn't have the same strength on offense as UNCG, so expect the hosts to treat the hometown fans to a positive experience.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: UNC Greensboro 75, Furman 65
