GAME NOTES: The Elon Phoenix try for a third consecutive victory when they
challenge the Wofford Terriers on Saturday night in Southern Conference
Elon has won each of its last two games by double digits, most recently
winning at home over Furman (73-59) on Thursday night. Lucas Troutman scored
18 points. Also reaching double figures for Elon was Josh Bonney with 15
points and Ryley Beaumont with 10, the latter making up for just 4-of-12
shooting from the floor by pulling down nine rebounds.
Jack Isenbarger is closing in on a milestone for the Phoenix. He comes into
this game 22 points shy of becoming the 35th player in Elon's 104-year history
of men's basketball to attain the 1,000-point milestone. Troutman (15.3 ppg)
leads the team in scoring, followed by Isenbarger (13.8) and Beaumont (10.6).
Beaumont also leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per outing. Sebastian Koch (8.6
ppg) is also part of the starting lineup, as is Sebastian Koch (7.4 ppg). The
Phoenix is averaging 70.1 points a game, while giving up 65.1. Elon is second
in the SoCon in free throw shooting, making 72.2 percent of its attempts and
is tied for first in field goal defense by holding opponents to just 40.7
percent shooting. The problem, though, has been perimeter defense. Elon is
next-to-last in guarding the 3-point line, allowing teams to make 37.1 percent
The Terriers have lost back-to-back contests, including Wednesday's 71-52
decision at UNC Greensboro. This clash marks the conclusion of a three-game
road trip. On Wednesday, Spencer Collins totaled 12 points and Karl Cochran
tacked on 11 for Wofford, which has lost six of its last seven.
Cochran is leading the team in scoring with 16.3 ppg. Lee Skinner grabs a
team-best 7.4 rpg and adds 11.3 ppg. Wofford averages just 59 ppg, which is
last among the 12 teams in the SoCon. On a positive note, the Terriers are
allowing just 59.8 ppg, which is the best yield in the conference. They're
shooting 39.1 percent from the floor, which is the worst mark in the league.
Cochran leads the conference with 2.3 steals per game.
Wofford went on an incredible 24-1 run in the first half of a 72-59 win over
Elon on Feb. 15, 2012. Wofford has won the last four meetings in this series,
but the Phoenix has been playing well the last two games and look for that
trend to continue.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Elon 72, Wofford 62
