GAME NOTES: A pair of teams are looking to snap losing streaks, as the Marist
Red Foxes travel to Buffalo to battle the Canisius Golden Griffins in a Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup at the Koessler Athletic Center.
The Red Foxes have lost four straight coming into this contest. In their most
recent outing, Marist lost at Niagara, 94-72, in a MAAC game on Thursday
evening at the Gallagher Center. Niagara scored the game's first 13 points and
Marist would never recover. For the game, Niagara outshot Marist 52.2 percent
to 43.5 percent on the way to the 94-72 victory. Chavaughn Lewis led the Red
Foxes with 17 points, shooting 8-for-12 from the field, adding five rebounds
and five assists. Dorvell Carter had 11 points and six rebounds off of the
bench, while Adam Kemp just missed a double-double with 10 points and a team-
high nine rebounds.
Canisius comes into the contest having lost its last two, most recently to
Fairfield at home Thursday night. while The Golden Griffins saw their six-game
home win streak came to an end. Junior Billy Baron scored a team-high 14
points in the loss for Canisius, which dropped back-to-back games for the
first time this season after falling to Detroit Dec. 30 on the road.
This will be the 37th matchup between the Red Foxes and the Golden Griffins.
In their last 10 contests, Canisius holds a 8-2 advantage. This is the second
meeting already this year between the two squads. Canisius won at Marist back
on Dec. 9, 94-82. Last season, the teams split the season series, with each
team winning at home.
Devin Price is the leading scorer for Marist, averaging 13.2 points per game.
Lewis is close behind at 13.4 points per game. Kemp's 7.2 boards per game
lead the squad. As a team, Marist is scoring 62.5 points per contest but
Baron leads the Golden Griffins in scoring at 17.5 per game. Joining him in
double figures are Harold Washington at 13.6 per game and Isaac Sosa at 11.1
per game. Chris Manhertz is pulling down 8.3 rebounds a game to lead the team.
The Golden Griffins make their living beyond the 3-point arc, making 9.2 3-
pointers a game, good for seventh best in the nation. They are scoring 74.6
points per game and holding opponents to 71.8.
One of the losing streaks will come to an end tonight and it will likely be
that of the Golden Griffins. Marist lacks the offense to keep pace with
Canisius, especially given the Golden Griffins' 3-point prowess.
