GAMES NOTES: The Arizona State Sun Devils and the Oregon Ducks will battle for
Pac-12 supremacy in the early season when they meet up at Matthew Knight Arena
on Sunday night.
If Oregon is going to grab a win the Ducks will have to cool off the Sun
Devils after a 72-62 win on the road against Oregon State on Thursday gave ASU
its sixth straight win. The Sun Devils, who are 14-2 overall, are also 3-0 in
Pac-12 play for just the fifth time since the formation of the then Pac-10 in
1978. This is the final contest of a two-game road stint for the Sun Devils
who return home to host instate rival Arizona in a huge matchup next Saturday.
Oregon knows all about big matchups with the fourth-ranked Wildcats as the
Ducks are fresh off a 70-66 defeat of Arizona, its first this season. The
Ducks didn't come out of nowhere to get the win, as they have also been
scorching out of the gate with a 13-2 overall record and wins in eight of
their last nine, including both conference tilts. The Ducks have been
impossible to stop at Matthew Knight Arena where they are 11-0. Oregon will
play back-to-back games in Los Angeles next against USC and UCLA.
These teams met once last season with the Ducks earning a 67-58 victory. It
was the second straight win for Oregon in the series, Arizona State leads the
all-time series 41-33.
Led by Jahii Carson's 20 points, the Sun Devils were able to handle Oregon
State last time out. Arizona State had a 49-35 edge in rebounds and held the
Beavers to just 37.3 percent shooting in the victory. Carrick Felix had
another strong game with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Carson and Felix have each been playing at an exceptional level for Arizona
State. Carson, a freshman, leads the team in scoring and assists (16.9 ppg,
5.1 apg), ranking in the top five in the conference in each category. He has
already scored 20 points in six games this season. Felix (15.3 ppg, 8.2 rpg)
has scored in double figures in 15 straight games, which is tied with
Washington State's Brock Motum for the longest such streak in the Pac-12.
Jordan Bachynski (10.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg) has been a beast up front, swatting 4.6
shots per game which leads the conference and is third in the nation overall.

by nearly 10 points per game.
The Ducks got out to a 41-30 lead at halftime against Arizona and then held on
down the stretch to pull off the upset. It was the just the second win in as
many tries for Oregon against a a ranked opponent at Matthew Knight Arena.

the arc.

77.0 points per game and shooting 46.8 percent from the field, which are each
the second best marks in the Pac-12. The Ducks actually lead the conference in

is the top scorer. Tony Woods (10.7 ppg) has been scoring well from the

versatile option at forward with his ability to stretch the floor.
A handful of some of the best players in the conference will be matching up in
this game. Although Oregon might be at risk of suffering a let down after the
huge win against Arizona, the Ducks should be able to ride their homecourt
advantage to yet another win.
