GAME NOTES: The Maryland Terrapins travel to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at Cassell Coliseum.

Although they prevailed in their last game, an 86-60 decision at home over Wake Forest, the Terrapins come into this game having dropped two of their last three. In fact, since starting the season a stellar 13-1, which included a 13-game winning streak, Maryland has gone just 3-5.

After falling in a heartbreaker at North Carolina in overtime, 72-60, the Hokies have now lost four straight and eight of their last nine overall.

Maryland leads the all-time series with VaTach, 29-10. The Terps have won the last two matchups, the most recent coming just over a month ago, a 94-71 blowout in College Park. Seth Allen scored 21 points and Jake Layman had 20 to lead Maryland to its 13th straight win.

Logan Aronhalt tallied 13 points to lead six Maryland players in double- figures as the Terps defeated Wake Forest, 86-60, at the Comcast Center the last time out. In addition to Aronhalt, Jake Layman, James Padgett, Alex Len, and Seth Allen all scored 12 points each, while Dez Wells added 11 for the Terps, who ended a two-game slump. Len led the team with nine rebounds and three blocks. Maryland held a dominating 42-21 rebounding edge over the Demon Deacons, and shot a red-hot 67.3 percent from the field for the game, including 11-of-16 from beyond the arc. The home team held Wake to just 34.4 percent shooting on the night.

Len leads Maryland in scoring this season with 12.7 ppg, while also pacing the team in rebounding with 8.2 per game. Sitting just behind him is Wells with 12.2 ppg, as both players are shooting better than 53 percent from the field. As a collective unit, the Terps shoot 47.5 percent from the field and average 72 ppg. Defensively, they hold their opponents to 61.3 ppg, and with that maintain a +10.7 scoring margin, which ranks second in the ACC and among the top-40 in the nation.

Virginia Tech led for the first 28 minutes of its most recent outing and had a chance to win in the final seconds, but the Hokies ran out of gas and fell on the road versus North Carolina, 72-60, in overtime. Green led the team with 16 points, but hit just 7-of-21 from the floor. His potential game-winning jumper with two seconds left in regulation was partially blocked and the Tar Heels took the game in overtime. The Hokies also got 15 points from Jarell Eddie and 12 from Cadarian Raines. VaTech shot just 38.7 percent from the floor.

Green continues to lead the nation in scoring with his 25 ppg. Eddie is next on the team with 14.4 ppg, and although no other Hokie is averaging double figures, they still rank fourth in the ACC in scoring at 73.1 ppg. They are struggling at the defensive end however, giving up over 74 ppg, ranking them dead last in the conference.

With offensive production not an issue, it's the Hokies' defensive failings that are keeping them in the ACC basement. The Terps are a much more balanced squad, so look for them to steal a rare road victory tonight.
