Missoula, MT (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Barden and Tate Unruh each finished
with 20 points to lead the Northern Colorado Bears to an 84-73 victory over
the Montana Grizzlies in a Big Sky Conference matchup at Dahlberg Arena.
Tevin Svihovec added 12 points for the Bears (11-4, 5-1 Big Sky), while
Dominique Lee finished with 10 points.
For the Grizzlies (7-8, 2-4), Kareem Jamar led all scorers with 23 points
before fouling out. Keron DeShields finished with 19 points and Jordan Gregory
Montana connected on a red-hot 70 percent of its field goal tries in the first
half, but just 2-of-7 from 3-point range. UNC shot 53.8 percent and knocked
down 4-of-7 from beyond the arc to take a slim lead into halftime, 40-39.
The Bears stayed hot after the break, shooting 62.5 percent from the field.
The Grizzlies cooled off, making only 40.7 percent of their shots from the
floor, including just 3-of-14 from deep. With the score tied at 48-48 early in
the second, the Bears went on a 12-2 run to take the lead for good and pull
out the victory.
UNC was able to score 18 second chance points as a result of 11 offensive
rebounds. The Bears also dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Grizzlies
