Lafayette, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - George Fant scored 25 points before
fouling out, as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers held on for a 79-70 victory
over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference tilt at the
T.J. Price added 18 points and Trency Jackson tacked on 17 off the bench for
Western Kentucky (13-7, 5-2 Sun Belt), which has won three straight.
Elfrid Payton logged 16 points and six assists for Louisiana (12-8, 3-4),
which has lost three of its last four. Shawn Long registered 13 points, 11
rebounds and four blocks, Bryant Mbamalu chipped in 13 points and Xavian
Rimmer contributed 10 points.
Western Kentucky connected on 51.9 percent of its shots from the floor in the
first half, while Louisiana turned in a 44.8 percent effort. The Hilltoppers
led 37-32 at the break.
After intermission the Hilltoppers cooled to 46.2 percent shooting, but they
hit 16-of-18 at the free-throw line and limited the Ragin' Cajuns to 32.3
Western Kentucky had a 36-32 edge on the boards and a 44-32 advantage on
points in the paint.
