Terre Haute, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Manny Arop scored 14 points to go with
eight rebounds as the Indiana State Sycamores easily defeated the Illinois
State Redbirds 76-62 in a Missouri Valley Conference tilt at the Hulman
Dawon Cummings added 14 points while Khristian Smith had 12 for the Sycamores
(16-4, 7-1 MVC), who have won nine of their last ten games. Jake Odum and
Justin Gant tallied 10 points apiece with Odum dishing out five assists.
Bobby Hunter finished with 13 points and four steals for the Redbirds (11-9,
4-4), who lost their second consecutive decision. Paris Lee and Reggie Lynch
had 11 points apiece while Lynch finished with seven rebounds.
Indiana State drained 58.3 percent of its shots from the floor in the first
half, including 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, as it took a 40-29 lead into
halftime. Illinois State shot just 35.7 percent on field goal tries, including
2-of-11 from 3-point range.
The Sycamores made just 41.7 percent of their field goal attempts in the
second frame, but that was good enough for them to coast to an easy victory.
They would lead by as much as 20 points in the second period.
Indiana State shot an impressive 52.4 percent from 3-point range, compared
with Illinois State's 21.1 percent from beyond the arc.
