Evansville, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Bohannon finished with 17 points for
Northern Iowa as the Panthers coasted to an 80-53 victory over the Evansville
Purple Aces in a Missouri Valley Conference tilt at the Ford Center.
Seth Tuttle added 14 points and seven rebounds for UNI (8-7, 2-1 MVC). Wes
Washpun contributed 12 points and five assists while Deon Mitchell and Chip
Rank scored nine points each. Mitchell also accounted for six of the Panthers'
Blake Simmons paced Evansville (7-9, 0-3) with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting
from the floor. Duane Gibson had five assists in the Purple Aces' third
The Panthers shot 53.3 percent from the field including 7-of-15 from 3-point
range en route to a 43-24 halftime lead. Evansville fell behind as it
connected on only 9-of-25 field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes of the
UNI hit on 7-of-15 shots from behind the arc in the second half also while the
Purple Aces went just 2-of-5 from 3-point range. The Panthers extended their
lead by eight points despite going 6-of-12 at the free-throw line in the
Evansville made only 40 percent of its field goal attempts and allowed UNI to
hit on 47 percent of its shots from beyond the arc in the contest. The
Panthers also enjoyed a narrow, 34-31, edge in the rebounding battle.
