Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Zeke Marshall registered 18 points, 10
rebounds and seven blocked shots to lead the Akron Zips to a 62-59 win over
the Kent State Golden Flashes at Quicken Loans Arena to advance to the
Mid-American Conference Tournament finals.
Demetrius Treadwell finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Akron (25-6)
while Nick Harney added 11 points and four assists off the bench.
Randal Holt paced Kent State (20-13) with 19 points and five assists. Chris
Evans chipped in nine rebounds before fouling out.
Akron shot 54.5 percent in the opening period and made 4-of-8 from behind the
arc. The Zips led 32-29 at halftime despite being outrebounded, 17-12.
Marshall scored seven quick points to open the second half to give Akron some
breathing room but Kent State went on a 15-4 run and took a 46-43 lead with
12:24 remaining in the game. After trading baskets for the majority of the
period, Akron emerged victorious after two free throws from Brian Walsh gave
it a four-point edge with six seconds left.
The Zips will take on Ohio for the MAC Tournament Championship next.
