Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - D.J. Cooper scored a team-high 16 points as
the Ohio University Bobcats held on to defeat the Western Michigan Broncos,
61-59, in Mid-American Conference action at University Arena.
Cooper was 5-of-11 from the field, adding five rebounds and six assists in the
Ohio (11-5,2-0 MAC) victory. Reggie Keely scored 10 points but was the only
other player in double figures for the Bobcats as they extended to a three-
game winning streak.
For the Broncos (8-7, 0-2), Jared Klein scored a game-high 18 points, making
11-of-12 at the free-throw line. Shayne Whittington recorded a double-double
with 10 points and 13 boards as the Broncos fell for the third time in as many
Ohio was 10-of-25 from the floor, including 4-of-10 from long range, while
limiting the hosts to a mere 6-of-25 from the field in the first half, en
route to a 29-25 advantage at the break.
The Broncos continued to struggle after intermission, shooting 9-of-28 from
the floor and 1-of-4 beyond the arc. Ohio managed to hold on for the narrow
win despite converting just 2-of-11 from 3-point range in the second half.
WMU was 21-of-51 (.412) from the floor, including six 3-pointers. The Broncos
were limited to a meager 15-of-53 (.283) from the field on the day.
