New York, NY (Sports Network) - Jack Isenbarger drained a three-pointer with
2,3 seconds remaining to lift the Elon Phoenix to a 70-69 victory over the
Columbia Lions in a non-conference tilt at Levien Gymnasium.
Isenbarger finished with 16 points thanks to a 4-of-6 performance from beyond
the arc for Elon (7-5), which snapped a two-game losing slide. Lucas Troutman
led all scorers with 23 points and Ryley Beaumont came close to a double-
double with 10 points and nine boards.
Steve Frankoski paced Columbia (5-7) with 20 points off the bench. Brian
Barbour added nine points and 12 assists as the Lions lost for the fourth time
in five outings.
The Phoenix closed out the opening half on a 10-2 run to take a 38-30 lead
into the intermission. Although the Lions shot 43.3 percent from the floor in
the first half, they trailed at the break after making just 2-of-11 from
three-point range and allowing Elon to convert 51.6 percent of its field goal
Columbia overcame an 11-point second half deficit and held a 69-65 lead with
2:46 left to play, but Beaumont made it a one possession game with a jumper
one minute later and neither side managed to score again until Isenbarger's
game winning shot from deep. The Lions received a huge boost from their
reserves who scored 21 points in the final 20 minutes.
The hard-fought battle was also reflected in the rebounding battle as both
teams finished with 30 boards.
