NCAA Game Summary - Towson at Eastern Kentucky

(Saturday, November 17)

Final Score: Eastern Kentucky 71, Towson 69 (OT)

Richmond, KY (Sports Network) - Deverin Muff sank four free throws in the final 26 seconds to help push the Eastern Kentucky Colonels to a 71-69 overtime win against the Towson Tigers as part of the Comfort Suites Invitational at McBrayer Arena.

Muff finished with eight points in the outing for the Colonels (3-0) as they remained unbeaten after three games for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign. Leading the way in scoring for EKU were Mike DiNunno and Glenn Cosey with 17 and 14 points, respectively.

The Tigers (1-2) were paced by Rafriel Guthrie who tallied 16 points off the bench before fouling out, but it was Jerrelle Benimon who made the biggest impact with 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds in the losing cause.

Towson opened up the contest by claiming a five-point lead less than two minutes in, but the squad ended up making a total of just nine field goals in the period, allowing the Colonels to claim a 34-28 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Tigers again made only nine field goals, but the big difference was that Towson was able to outscore EKU at the free-throw line in the period by a 10-1 margin. A pair of conversions at the charity stripe by Mike Burwell with 23 seconds remaining in regulation knotted the score at 58-58 and sent the meeting into overtime.

In the extra session Muff and the Colonels made all but one of their eight free-throw chances to secure the victory.

Towson held a 43-30 rebounding edge, but that didn't allow the group to overcome 17 turnovers in the outing.
