Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Ben Clifford scored 21 points and pulled down
eight rebounds as the Utah State Aggies cruised to a 71-51 win over the
Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio in Western Athletic Conference action at the
Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Also scoring in double figures for the Aggies (21-9, 11-7 WAC), who were
already locked into the fifth spot for the upcoming conference tournament,
were TeNale Roland and Spencer Butterfield with 14 points apiece and Jarred
Shaw 11 to go along with his nine rebounds. Marvin Jean cleared a game-high 10
boards, but accounted for just three points on 1-of-8 shooting from the field.
The Roadrunners (8-21, 3-14) were paced by Michael Hale III who dropped in 21
points, while Jeromie Hill tacked on 10 and eight boards as the squad lost a
second straight. Leading scorer Kannon Burrage accounted for nine points and
nine rebounds, but shot only 4-of-16 from the floor on the night.
UTSA led by a point early on in the meeting, but the squad ended up shooting a
mere 24.1 percent from the floor, including 2-of-13 beyond the arc in the
first half, en route to a 25-17 deficit at the break.
After shooting only 36.4 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes,
the Aggies dialed up the pressure with an impressive 60.7 percent accuracy, en
route to the comfortable win at home.
The Roadrunners were charged with only four turnovers in the meeting, but they
also lost the battle of the boards, 42-26.
