San Marcos, TX (Sports Network) - Spencer Butterfield scored 18 points and
handed out nine assists as he helped lead the Utah State Aggies to an 81-57
win over the Texas State Bobcats in a Western Athletic Conference showdown at
Strahan Coliseum.
Preston Medlin knocked down 5-of-10 shots behind the 3-point line for the
Aggies (11-1, 2-0 WAC) as he tallied a team-best 21 points, while Jarred Shaw
contributed 17 points for the visitors as they delivered their 10th win in a
row.
The Bobcats (4-10, 0-2), one of the newest additions to the WAC, were paced by
Wesley Davis who tallied a game-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the
floor. Joel Wright came up a rebound shy of a double-double as he tacked on 11
points, followed by Deonte Jones with 10 as the team suffered a fifth straight
setback.
Texas State led by three points early in the meeting, but then the Aggies put
together a 9-0 run to surge ahead and eventually take a 31-23 advantage at the
break. USU led at intermission despite shooting only 39.3 percent from the
floor.
In the second half the visitors came out firing, connecting on 63.3 percent
from the field as they pulled away for the comfortable win.
Utah State survived 15 turnovers by converting 51.7 percent from the field and
holding the hosts to just 5-of-22 shooting beyond the arc.
