Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Alex Hamilton scored 14 points, including the
game-winning free throws in the final minute, as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
defeated the Texas-Arlington Mavericks, 55-52, in Western Athletic Conference
action at College Park Center.
Hamilton added five rebounds and four assists for Louisiana Tech (12-3. 3-0
WAC), which has won four straight. Kenyon McNeail added 10 points and three
steals for the visitors.
For UTA (6-6, 1-2), Jamel Outler scored 12 points and Brandon Edwards ripped
down a career-high 15 rebounds. The Mavericks are now losers of three in a
row.
Although UTA shot just 34.6 percent from the field in the first half, it held
the Bulldogs to only 25.7 percent shooting, as it took a 28-23 advantage at
the break.
The Mavericks extended their lead to 10 with under 10 minutes to play before
Louisiana Tech ripped off a 10-0 run to tie the game, 43-43, with just over
seven minutes remaining. The teams went back-and-forth down the stretch before
a pair of Hamilton free throws gave the Bulldogs a 53-52 lead with 46 seconds
left. Following an empty possession for UTA, Louisiana Tech added two more
free throws to seal the victory.
Louisiana Tech held a commanding edge in the turnover battle, 23-11, which
helped it attempt 13 more field goals than UTA.
