Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - Ryan Anderson poured in 24 points, and
the Boston College Eagles fended off the previously red-hot Providence Friars,
71-68, in a matchup between former conference rivals at the Conte Forum.
Olivier Hanlan added 17 points and 12 rebounds to help lift the Eagles (6-5)
to their third straight victory.
The Friars (8-3) saw their six-game winning streak come to a halt despite a
game-high 33 points from Bryce Cotton, who shot 7-of-14 from beyond the arc.
Kadeem Batts joined Cotton in double figures with 14 points to go along with
The game featured 12 ties and 14 lead changes, with BC's six-point lead at the
7:22 mark of the first half representing the largest advantage by either team.
The Eagles made 5-of-9 3-pointers in the opening frame while holding
Providence to 36.4-percent shooting from the floor, although the teams went to
the locker room tied at 36-36 at halftime.
Neither team shot better than 40 percent from the floor in the second stanza,
although BC held a key 13-6 scoring edge at the foul line over the final 20
minutes to secure the victory.
Providence shot just 36.5 percent from the floor for the game.
