Georgetown's Porter declares for draft

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Georgetown sophomore forward Otto Porter Jr. announced on Monday that he will enter this year's NBA draft.

Porter will forego his final two seasons of college eligibility after a season that saw him finish second to Michigan's Trey Burke for The Associated Press player of the year.

A first-team All-American, he averaged 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds and was named the Big East Player of the Year. He also led the team in steals (1.8) and was third in assists (2.7) along with seven double-doubles.

"It was a tough decision. I love Georgetown, my coaches and my teammates," said Porter. "I'm going to come back and finish up my degree, but during the season I've been trying to focus on the season. After the season, I started thinking about my decision and I spoke to my parents about it. I knew it was coming down to it, but my coaches, my teammates and my parents have helped prepare me for this next step."

He is expected to be a lottery pick in the draft that occurs on June 27.
