Cookeville, TN (Sports Network) - Jud Dillard led the way with 20 points, as the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles took down the UMKC Kangaroos, 68-62, in a non-conference bout at the Eblen Center as part of BracketBusters weekend.
For the Golden Eagles (11-16), Dennis Ogbe added 16 points, while Jeremiah Samarrippas and Lanerryl Johnson each chipped in with 10 points.
Nelson Kirksey led the Kangaroos (7-22) with 16 points, while Estan Tyler contributed 14 points and Fred Chatmon pulled down 10 rebounds. UMKC has now dropped eight of its last nine decisions.
Both squads struggled from the field in the first half. Tennessee Tech was the better of the two, making 34.6 percent of its field goal tries, as it took a slim, 28-25, lead into halftime. UMKC managed to shoot just 29 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, each team found their shot. The Golden Eagles connected on 58.3 percent from the field. The Kangaroos attempted to keep pace, shooting 50 percent. The Kangaroos never led in the second half, although they were able to tie the game on several occasions, the last with 3:48 to play, but the Golden Eagles answered that final deadlock with a 5-0 run and held on for the victory.
Tennessee Tech had a 17-11 scoring edge on the free-throw line. UMKC had the advantage in rebounding, 37-32.
