Ruston, LA (Sports Network) - Raheem Appleby led the way with 18 points as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs downed the Central Arkansas Bears, 84-62, at the Thomas Assembly Center as part of BracketBusters weekend.
For the Bulldogs (13-14), Cordarius Johnson added 16 points, Romario Souza 13, Michale Kyser finished with 12 points and Kenneth Smith dished out 15 assists.
The Bears (7-18) were led by LaQuentin Miles with 18 points, while Jordan Harks added 13 and Jarvis Garner chipped in 11 points.
Tech came out of the game shooting red-hot, connecting on 59.4 percent of their field goals, including 7-of-11 from behind the arc. UCA shot a respectable 48.1 percent from the field, but could make just 2-of-8 from long range, as the Bulldogs took a commanding 48-31 lead into halftime.
After the break, both teams cooled off from the floor, with the Bulldogs making 41.4 percent of their shots, while the Bears struggled to hit just 25 percent. Neither team could shoot from long distance in the second half, where they went a combined 2-of-22. Tech led comfortably for the entire second half, as the squad cruised to victory and handed the Bears their ninth straight defeat,
Tech outscored UCA in the paint, 34-22. The hosts also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Bears 43-35.
