Rhode Island crushes FDU for ninth straight win
Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Jimmy Baron scored 22 points as No. 23 Rhode Island routed Fairleigh Dickinson, 94-63, at the Ryan Center.
Lamonte Ulmer added 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting and Kahiem Seawright had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Rams (14-1), who have won nine straight and are off to their best start since 1946-47.
Will Daniels donated 10 points and nine boards, and Delroy James chipped in with 10 points for Rhode Island, which remained undefeated at home.
Manny Ubilla was a one-man show for the Knights (4-7), scoring 39 points. He finished 8-of-15 from three-point range and also pulled down seven rebounds.
Fairleigh Dickinson took advantage of the Rams' poor shooting early and led 11-6 after Ubilla's triple with 15:54 left in the first half.
The Rams, though, quickly found their touch and took the lead on Seawright's layup with 8:39 on the clock. Rhode Island dominated the rest of the way.
Rhode Island stretched its lead to 44-31 at the half and outscored the Knights 50-32 in the second half behind 55.1 percent shooting on the night.
Fairleigh Dickinson, on the other hand, shot just 37 percent, was outrebounded 41-30 and committed 16 turnovers while forcing just six.
94 points is the most scored by Rhode Island all season...The Rams began just 5-of-15 from the field...Rhode Island scored 23 points off turnovers...The Rams scored 29 second chance points; the Knights finished with seven...Rhode Island plays at No. 20 Dayton next Wednesday...Attendance was 4,141.
