Wisconsin stays unbeaten by topping Delaware State
Madison, WI (Sports Network) - Alando Tucker was as advertised Tuesday night, scoring 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting as No. 7 Wisconsin cruised to a 64-52 victory over Delaware State as part of the South Padre Invitational at the Kohl Center.
Brian Butch joined his frontcourt mate in double figures with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Wisconsin (4-0), which will square off against Missouri State on Friday in South Padre Island, Texas.
Jahsha Bluntt and Roy Bright had 18 points apiece for Delaware State (1-4), which won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season title by four games last season, but was stunned by Hampton in the championship game for the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Hornets made 11-of-17 from the floor in the opening half, trailing just 33-27 at the break. They shot just 30 percent in the second half, but again stayed close because of an 11-of-11 effort from the charity stripe.
A 7-0 burst in the waning minutes of the first half staked the Badgers to a 29-22 lead. Michael Flowers drained a three, then Tucker converted a pair of buckets.
The lead grew to 52-38 just under the seven-minute mark of the second half on another Tucker jumper. The Hornets drew within eight, 56-48, on Darrin Shine's layup with 3:09 remaining, but got no closer.
This was the first meeting between the two schools...Ironically the two teams share five common opponents this season: Pitt, Missouri State, Marquette, Purdue and Michigan...Tuesday marked the first of four games in eight days for Wisconsin...The Badgers made 53.1 percent of their shots, but converted only 2-of-8 from beyond the arc.
