Gray, Cook lead No. 4 Pittsburgh to rout of Delaware State
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Aaron Gray had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 4 Pittsburgh past Delaware State, 67-50, at Petersen Events Center.
Mike Cook added 13 points and Levon Kendall and Antonio Graves each chipped in 10 points for the Panthers (2-0), who opened their season last Sunday with a 86-67 romp of Western Michigan.
Aaron Fleetwood had 10 points and seven rebounds and Jahsha Bluntt added 10 points for the Hornets (1-1), who began a stretch of 13 consecutive road games.
The Hornets scored the first two points of the game, but after that it was all Pittsburgh.
The Panthers went on a 12-1 run to assume command of the game. Grey scored seven points during the burst.
A three-pointer by Mark D'Agostino and two free throws by Bluntt got Delaware State to within 14-11, but Pitt scored the next nine points to again take a double-digit lead.
A trey in the final seconds by Levance Fields staked the Panthers to a 37-27 lead at halftime.
The closest the Hornets got in the second half was when Troy Roundtree drained a three-pointer less than a minute in to make it a 39-30 game.
The Panthers, though, scored the next six points and were never seriously threatened the remainder of the contest.
Delaware State will not play a home game until January 13, 2007...Fields finished with three points, five rebounds and eight assists...Pitt connected on 51 percent of its shots while the Hornets only made 35 percent of their shots from the floor.
