Williams' triple-double paces Miners in win over Bisons
El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Jason Williams notched a rare triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in leading the Texas-El Paso Miners to an easy 85-66 win over the Lipscomb Bisons in the opening round of the NIT from the Don Haskins Center.
Stefon Jackson headed the charge for UTEP (21-9), as he posted a team-high 22 points and five assists. Edgar Moreno and Kevin Henderson each scored 13 points for the Miners, who will square off against Michigan in the first round of the NIT on Thursday.
Brian Fisk led the way for Lipscomb (21-11) with a game-high 23 points, while Eddie Ard added 12 points and eight rebounds.
UTEP shot a scorching 66.7 percent from the floor in the first half and opened up a commanding 44-23 lead at the break.
In the second stanza, the Miners made 7-of-14 shots from long range and 10- of-14 at the foul line, as they cruised to the 19-point victory.
The Miners shot 57.7 percent from the field in the game, including a 14-of-24 effort from behind the arc.
