O'Boyle leaves Stony Brook for VCU

Stony Brook, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Stony Brook University head women's basketball coach Beth O'Boyle has resigned to accept the same position at VCU.

O'Boyle, who will be introduced Tuesday in Richmond, led the Seawolves to a 24-9 record this past season. The 24 wins are a Stony Brook Division I program record.

Stony Brook, which also went 13-3 in America East play, earned a national postseason bid for the first time since 2006, appearing in the first round of the WNIT.

O'Boyle was 42-51 in three seasons with the Seawolves. She is responsible for the nation's best active two-year turnaround, taking the team from four wins in 2011-12 to 24 wins this past season.

O'Boyle spent four seasons as an assistant at Canisius before joining Stony Brook.
