Bourdais takes pole in Assen

Assen, The Netherlands (Sports Network) - Sebastien Bourdais captured the pole position for Sunday's Bavaria Champ Car Grand Prix with a second-day qualifying time of one minute, 18.765 seconds (129.346 m.p.h.).

Bourdais, the series points leader, was only sixth-fastest on the first day of qualifying on a wet road course at the TT-Circuit Assen. On Saturday, though, he was the only driver to break the 1:19 barrier and earned his sixth pole victory of 2007.

The Newman/Haas/Lanigan driver already has six race victories this season and is riding a two-race winning streak. Three of his wins have come from the pole, including the last two at the Grand Prix of Belgium and the Generac Grand Prix.

Bourdais owns a 53-point lead in the driver standings with only three races remaining, including Sunday.

Justin Wilson, who won the provisional pole on Friday, had only the ninth-best time on Saturday, but his first-day performance guaranteed him a spot on the front row with Bourdais.

Tristan Gommendy and Neel Jani will start on row two, followed by Simon Pagenaud and Graham Rahal.

The race is scheduled to drop the green flag on Sunday at 7 a.m. (et).
