NCAA Game Summary - Bowling Green at Northern Illinois

(Monday, March 10th)

Final Score: Northern Illinois 54, Bowling Green 51 (OT)

DeKalb, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Threloff posted 13 points and nine rebounds for Northern Illinois as the Huskies slipped by Bowling Green in overtime, 54-51, in the first round of the 35th annual Mid-American Conference Tournament at the Convocation Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the seventh-seeded Huskies (15-16) was Aaric Armstead who tallied 12 points, to go along with five rebounds and four steals for the hosts.

Jehvon Clarke led all scorers with 15 points, but he was also charged with seven turnovers in the loss for the 10th-seeded Falcons (12-20). Cameron Black and Richaun Holmes both tallied 10 points, the latter pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds.

Northern Illinois connected on an even 50.0 percent from the field in the first half, but the team missed on all but one of six chances behind the 3- point line, leaving the Huskies with just a four-point edge at the break, 30-26.

Trailing by three (49-46) in the final seconds, Holmes missed a 3-pointer which would have tied it, but Clarke came away with the rebound and fired up a triple of his own in the waning moments to send the meeting into overtime.

During the extra session the Huskies took the early lead on a layup by Darrell Bowie and from there held on for the close call.

Bowling Green, which shot only 6-of-11 at the free-throw line, also turned the ball over a staggering 22 times, miscues that the Huskies used to generate 27 points.

With the victory, NIU advances to the second round on Wednesday night to face off against Eastern Michigan which topped Central Michigan on Monday night, 72-60.
