GAME NOTES: The final regular-season meeting between Furman and Appalachian State as Southern Conference rivals takes place on Saturday afternoon when the Paladins host the Mountaineers at Timmons Arena.

Appalachian State, which is switching to the Sun Belt Conference next season, continued limping to the finish line on Thursday in a 74-61 home loss to Western Carolina. The Mountaineers fell in an early 9-0 hole and never climbed out, thanks in part to a horrid 16-of-33 showing at the free-throw line.

It was the final home home for ASU, and senior Tommy Spagnolo led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double in the last nine games. Ty Toney and Tevin Baskin chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the setback, the club's fifth in the last seven games.

Leading scorer Tab Hamilton, who came in averaging 13.6 ppg, was limited to four points on 1-of-10 shooting. Mike Neal is putting up 10.1 ppg for Appalachian State, which averages 69.9 ppg.

There is good news for ASU, however, as Furman has dropped six of its last seven games, including a 70-50 blowout loss to Wofford on Thursday. It was the final road game of the season for Furman, which plays hosts for its final three games.

Keith Belfield scored 14 points on Thursday, Stephen Croone netted 13 and Kendrec Ferrara had 10 for the Paladins, who shot just 39.5 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 15 times.

Croone's 19.5 ppg average this season leads the team. He also adds 3.5 apg, which is fifth in the SoCon. Ferrara (10.3) is the only other double-digit scorer for the Paladins, who average just 66.0 ppg while yielding 73.8 ppg.

The Mountaineers have won four straight meetings versus Furman, and while neither team has played well of late, ASU should run that streak to five on Saturday.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Appalachian State 66, Furman 60
