GAME NOTES: Two squads struggling to find wins do battle in Mobile on Saturday night, as the Troy Trojans challenge the South Alabama Jaguars in Sun Belt Conference action.

Troy was downed by Louisiana on Thursday night, 78-63. That left the Trojans with just two wins in their in last nine outings, and .

South Alabama is in a similar boat of late, losing seven of its last eight. The Jaguars dropped a heartbreaker on Thursday night, as the fell on the road to Texas State in overtime, 67-66.

This is the 23rd meeting all-time between these two programs. Troy won previous encounter this season, 79-74, back on Feb. 6.

Antoine Myers tallied 14 points to pace Troy in the recent loss to Louisiana, while Kevin Thomas, Hunter Williams and Kelton Ford each added 11 points. Troy connected on 31.8 percent of its total shots in the frame, and went 3-of-10 from 3-point range. The Ragin' Cajuns upped their shooting percentage to .594 in the second half, despite hitting just 1-of-6 from 3-point land. The Trojans went 43.8 percent from the floor in the second, including 4-of-14 from distance.

Normally the Trojans struggle to find their offensive rhythm. This season, they are netting just 68.3 ppg on 42 percent shooting, ranking seventh and eighth, respectively, in the conference. Williams (12.6 ppg) leads the team in scoring, despite only shooting 34.7 percent from the field. Myers (11.8 ppg) and Thomas (10 ppg) are usually the next options following Williams.

In the overtime loss to Texas State, the Jaguars were paced by Augustine Rubit with 22 points, seven boards and four blocks, while Mychal Ammons logged a double-double consisting of 15 points and 13 rebounds, but he also turned the ball over six times before fouling out. The Jags sent the meeting into overtime knotted at 56-56 after Barrington Steven converted a 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining. But Texas State knocked down a pair of free throws in the final seconds of regulation to pull out the victory.

Rubit has made his mark on the South Alabama program, etching his name on the leader board of several all-time statistical categories. This season, he leads the team in scoring with an even 17 ppg on 46.9 percent shooting from the floor. His 9.3 rpg is also a team-high, as are his 33 blocked shots. Antoine Allen checks in behind Rubit at 10.7 ppg to round out the double-digit scorers for the Jaguars. Stevens tops the squad in assists with 73.

These teams have nearly identical offensive profiles, so expect the unit with the difference-maker to have the edge. Rubit should be the best player on the court, and that should be enough to give the Jags the win.
