NCAA Game Summary - Kent State at Miami-Ohio

(Monday, March 10th)

Final Score: Miami-Ohio 71, Kent State 64

Oxford, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Willie Moore posted a game-high 17 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the RedHawks of Miami-Ohio defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes, 71-64, in the first round of the 35th annual Mid-American Conference Tournament at Millett Hall.

Quinten Rollins and Will Sullivan both pitched in with 13 points for eighth- seeded Miami (13-17), followed by Will Felder with 10 points and five steals.

The ninth-seeded Golden Flashes (16-16) were paced by Kris Brewer with 15 points, although he shot just 4-of-13 from the floor, including 1-of-5 behind the 3-point line. Reserves K.K. Simmons and Darren Goodson produced 10 points apiece in the setback.

A tight game throughout, neither team led by more than five in the first half, and while the RedHawks missed all four of their opportunities behind the 3- point line in the frame, they capitalized with 13-of-18 shooting at the free- throw line to move out to a 33-31 lead at the break.

The second half also saw Miami take advantage of 13 trips to the charity stripe, the team converting all but two chances, en route to the seven-point win.

In addition to suffering 17 turnovers and shooting only 6-of-17 beyond the arc, Kent State was also outscored 24-14 at the free-throw line.

With the win Miami-Ohio advances to the second round of the tourney on Wednesday evening and will face off against Ohio which defeated Ball State tonight, 76-64.
