NCAA Game Summary - Indiana St. vs. Pepperdine

Final Score: Indiana State 73, Pepperdine 70

Anchorage, AK (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Gant had a great all around performance with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor to go with four rebounds and four assists as he led the Indiana State Sycamores to a 73-70 victory over the Pepperdine Waves in the fifth-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout at the Sullivan Arena.

In the first ever meeting between the teams, senior guard Jake Odum scored 16 points for the the Sycamores (5-2). Devonte Brown came off the bench to score nine points while collecting three rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block. The Sycamores shot 6-of-12 from 3-point range in the contest.

The Pepperdine Waves (5-3) had a balanced scoring attack with four starters in double-figures. Jeremy Major led the charge with 15 points, Malte Kramer scored 14 points and Brendan Lane had 13. Stacy Davis added 12 points but also committed five of the team's 16 turnovers. The Waves were on fire from long range all game, converting half of their 20 3-point attempts.

Pepperdine led 35-33 at half after both teams shot over 56 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action. The Waves scored the first three points of the game but ISU responded with a 10-0 run and ended up hitting on nine of its first 10 shots.

The second half featured significant runs by both teams before a back-and- forth finish. After a 15-3 Sycamore run put them up 60-52, Pepperdine's Davis responded and scored seven points during a 10-2 run to once again tie the game at 62.

With under two minutes remaining Justin Gant broke a 65-all tie with a layup and Pepperdine's Malcom Brooks responded on the next possession with a make from behind the 3-point line. Gant scored another layup but Davis came right back for two points of his own. The ended when Odum scored to once again put ISU up by a point with 37 seconds left. Odum then stole the ball on the next possession and Dawon Cummings hit both of his free-throw attempts to extend ISU's advantage to 73-70. Nikolas Skouen missed a potentially game- tying 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

It was an evenly matched affair the whole game with both teams shooting incredibly well, but Pepperdine's 16 turnovers, including one with 17 seconds remaining and down a point, proved to be too much to overcome.
