Toledo, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind a career-high 18 points from J.D Weatherspoon, the Toledo Rockets held off the Cleveland State Vikings, 71-67, at Savage Arena to remain unbeaten.

Toledo (11-0) is off to its best start to a season since the 1966-67 team opened up 14-0. Nathan Boothe tallied 14 points and eight rebounds for the home team, Rian Pearson scored 11 points, and Julius Brown made up for a dreadful afternoon from the field (1-of-10) by handing out 10 assists.

For Cleveland State (6-6), Trey Lewis led all scorers with 21 points, doing so on 8-of-16 from the field. Charlie Lee and Bryn Forbes added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Even though Cleveland State outshot Toledo from the floor in the first half, 44.4 percent to 39.5 percent, the Rockets carried a 42-37 lead into intermission by shooting 11-of-14 at the free-throw line. They also earned extra possessions by forcing 10 Vikings' turnovers.

Toledo led by nine with under 10 minutes to play before Cleveland State ripped off an 11-2 run to tie the game with 4:30 left on a Lee 3-pointer. With 1:15 left, Pearson connected on the game-winning jumper for the Rockets, and Justin Drummond made two free throws with one second remaining to seal the victory.

Toledo won despite shooting just 3-of-18 from 3-point range. It held a decided advantage in both the rebounding (45-34) and turnover (15-10) battles.
