NCAA Game Summary - FIU vs. Youngstown State

(Saturday, November 9)

Final Score: Youngstown State 74, FIU 72 (OT)

Kennesaw, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kamren Belin's jumper in the final seconds of overtime was just enough to provide the Youngstown State Penguins with a 74-72 victory over the FIU Panthers as part of the Kennesaw State Men's Basketball Tournament at the KSU Convocation Center.

Belin finished with 17 points for the Penguins (2-0), shooting 4-of-9 behind the 3-point line on the afternoon. Also landing in double figures was Kendrick Perry with 15 points and both Bobby Hain and Ryan Weber with 11 apiece. Hain also accounted for a team-high nine rebounds.

The Panthers (0-2) were paced by Rakeem Buckles and his double-double consisting of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Raymond Taylor filled out his stat line with 14 points, seven assists, six boards and a couple of steals, while Dennis Mavin chipped in 11 points.

Both teams shot the ball well from the floor in the first half and yet, even with 52.0 percent accuracy overall and 4-of-7 beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes, the Panthers still had to settle for a 36-36 tie at the break.

In the second half FIU's advantage bloomed to 13 points with just under eight minutes to play, but the visitors ended up shooting only 35.5 percent from the floor in the period, allowing YSU to come back by posting a 13-0 run to close out the frame and knot the score at 65-65, en route to the eventual win.

In a game that featured 10 ties and 17 lead changes, YSU survived despite being beaten on the glass (44-33) and coming away with just eight offensive rebounds on the day.
