NCAA Game Summary - Fresno State at Utah State

Logan, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Johnson logged a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, as the Fresno State Bulldogs held off the Utah State Aggies, 79-76, in a Mountain West Conference showdown at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Johnson shot 8-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range for Fresno State (14-14, 7-8 MWC), winners of six of seven. Paul Watson was also hot from beyond the arc (4-of-5) on his way to 20 points, while Marvelle Harris chipped in 15 points for the visitors.

For Utah State (15-12, 5-10), which has lost three straight, Jarred Shaw led the way with 18 points. Kyle Davis netted 14 points and hauled in 15 rebounds, while TeNale Roland (12 points) and Spencer Butterfield (10) handed out six assists apiece.

Fresno State led by as many as 16 in the first half, but Utah State ended the frame on a 15-5 run to go into intermission down just six, 39-33. The Aggies shot 44.8 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, compared to 44.1 percent for the Bulldogs.

Utah State took a brief one-point lead with 15:11 to play following a Roland layup, but Fresno State regained the advantage on its next possession on a pair of free throws from Watson. The Aggies would get within one possession of the lead several times down the stretch but never again had the advantage. The Bulldogs put the game on ice in the final minute by knocking down their final four free-throw attempts.

Fresno State shot an impressive 11-of-23 from 3-point range, while Utah State was a mere 6-of-21 from long distance.
