NCAA Game Summary - Oregon State at Maryland

(Sunday, November 17)

Final Score: Oregon State 90, Maryland 83

College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Roberto Nelson scorched the net for 31 points for the Oregon State Beavers, who knocked off the Maryland Terrapins 90-83 at the Comcast Center.

Nelson shot 9-of-17 from the field and 12-of-14 at the free-throw line for the Beavers (2-1) and posted seven assists. Devon Collier recorded a double- double with 29 points and 11 boards, shooting 11-of-17 from the field.

Dez Wells netted a team-high 23 points for the Terrapins (1-2), shooting 7- of-16 from the field and 8-of-8 on free throws. Evan Smotrycz (16 points), Jake Layman (15), Charles Mitchell (10) and Roddy Peters (10) also scored in double figures for the Terps.

Oregon State lit it up from the field during the first half, shooting 59.1 percent to Maryland's 40 percent. The Terrapins, however, stayed in the game, getting 13 second-chance points in the midst of back-and-forth action. The game went into halftime knotted at 38-38.

A Wells buzzer-beater at the end of the first half from impressive distance would have put Maryland ahead at the break, but the 3-pointer was waved off as time had expired before the release of the ball.

The Beavers scored at the start the second half and held their lead for the remainder of the game, which was as large as 12 points just over five minutes in. They shot an even better 60 percent in the final twenty minutes, including 13-of-16 at the charity stripe. The Terps could only sink 8-of-14 at the line.

OSU capitalized on Maryland turnovers, tallying 29 points on 18 miscues. The Beavers also shot a solid 59.6 percent from the field for the contest versus a 42.3 percent mark by the Terps.
