Both teams shot well to open the contest. UMass hit on 48.4 percent from the field, including 6-of-11 from beyond the three-point arc. After trailing by 12 points with 14:48 to play in the first half, UMass went on a 23-1 run over the next five minutes to take a 48-40 lead into the break. Ohio shot even better, connecting on 51.7 percent of their field goal attempts, including 7-of-15 from three-point range, but were outscored 12-3 at the free-throw line in the opening half.

After the intermission, the teams cooled off a bit. The Minutemen made 47.8 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half and missed all but three of their thirteen three-point tries. The Bobcats fell to just 40 percent shoot from the field, but did manage to make 5-of-15 from beyond the arc. Again they were outscored 12-3 from the free-throw line. With the game tied at 55 with just over 14 minutes to play, the Minutemen reeled off 11 unanswered points to take control of the contest and secure the victory.
