Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sports Network) - Juan Martin del Potro secured Argentina a spot in the Davis Cup semifinals with a dominating three-set victory over Croatia's Marin Cilic Sunday.
The 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 result gave Argentina an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five tie and clinched a home matchup against the Czech Republic September 14-16. The Czechs advanced past Serbia Sunday.
The 10th-ranked player in the world, del Potro didn't drop a set this weekend. He beat Ivo Karlovic 6-2, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 on Friday, just after Cilic topped David Nalbandian in a grueling five-set encounter that lasted more than five hours.
On Saturday, Nalbandian teamed with Eduardo Schwank in a five-set triumph that came up just one minute shy of five hours.
Argentina moved to 3-0 all-time versus Croatia, with both previous victories coming in the quarterfinals (2002, 2006).
The tough-luck Argentines are four-time Davis Cup runners-up and still seeking that elusive first-ever championship. Argentina lost to Spain in last year's final.
Croatia captured its lone Davis Cup title back in 2005.
Argentine Juan Monaco breezed past Antonio Veic, 6-1, 6-1, in the dead rubber singles.
