Espanyol edges Sociedad to extend unbeaten run
San Sebastian, Spain (Sports Network) - Diego Colotto scored 13 minutes from time as Espanyol defeated Real Sociedad, 1-0, on Sunday in La Liga at Anoeta to extend its unbeaten streak to four matches
Espanyol lost five of its first six matches this season, but secured its first road win to notch its second win during a four-game undefeated streak that has helped erase the poor start.
Despite the improved form, Espanyol remains in the bottom three in 18th place, but is now just one point from safety.
Real Sociedad started the season well, but has lost three of four games during a four-game winless streak. Sociedad is 16th, just one point out of the bottom three.
Deportivo 1, Mallorca 0
Madrid, Spain - Bruno Gama scored on the half-hour as Deportivo beat Mallorca, 1-0, on Sunday at Riazor to snap an eight-game winless streak in La Liga.
Deportivo won for the first time since the opening week of the season, when it beat Osasuna, 2-0. Deportivo climbed out of the bottom three with its second win.
Mallorca lost its fifth straight after starting the season unbeaten in five in a row.
Sevilla 0, Levante 0
Seville, Spain - Levante extended its unbeaten streak to four games with a 0-0 draw against Sevilla on Sunday at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Levante had won its last three matches, but the point leaves the club in fifth place and 11 points off the top after 10 matches.
Sevilla has just one win in its last five matches, with three of those results losses. Sevilla is seventh on 15 points.
Athletic Bilbao 2, Granada 1
Granada, Spain - Aritz Aduriz scored twice in the first 27 minutes as Athletic Bilbao beat Granada, 2-1, on Sunday at Los Carmenes to climb out of the bottom three in La Liga.
Bilbao had lost three of its last four matches, but Aduriz converted a penalty in the 13th and struck again in the 27th. Youssef El Arabi scored for Granada, which las lost its last three and remains in the relegation spots.
Valladolid 1, Osasuna 0
Navarra, Spain - Patrick Ebert scored seven minutes from time as Valladolid won 1-0 over 10-man Osasuna on Sunday at Estadio El Sadar in La Liga.
Valladolid snapped a three-game winless run. Osasuna lost for the seventh time in 10 matches this season and remains rooted to the foot of the standings with just five points.
