Madrid tops Vallecano for second win
Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Real Madrid recorded a much-needed 2-0 win at Rayo Vallecano on Monday for its second victory in five La Liga matches this season.
The contest was originally scheduled for Sunday, but had to be delayed by a day because the power supply was cut at the Estadio de Vallecas.
Despite the wait, Madrid started well and moved in front in the 13th minute when Karim Benzema got on the other end of a low cross from Angel Di Maria to redirect the ball into the net from close range.
Vallecano had its moments in a fairly close match, but the visitors doubled their advantage 20 minutes from time when Cristiano Ronaldo attempted to cut the ball back and it struck the arm of defender Jordi Amat.
Ronaldo stepped to the spot and sent goalkeeper Ruben the wrong way, wrapping up three points for Madrid to keep the club within eight points of leaders Barcelona.
