Hooper hits Hearts for five goals

Glasgow, Scotland (Sports Network) - Gary Hooper put on a fine individual display as he netted all five goals for Celtic in a 5-0 victory over Hearts at Parkhead on Sunday.

It was a fitting end to a season that saw Celtic run away with the league title, and Sunday's performance allowed Hooper to become just the third player, joining Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd, to have scored five times in one SPL game.

Hooper scored twice in the opening 10 minutes with the first tally coming on the rebound from a Kris Commons shot before Georgios Samaras did well in setting up Hooper for his second.

The striker completed his hat trick five minutes before the break from the penalty spot after Joe Ledley was fouled inside the area by Arvydas Novikovas, capping a dominant first half.

The second half was more of the same as Hooper netted his fourth goal from a pinpoint Commons pass, while the fifth and final goal arrived three minutes from time when Hooper finished off a cross from Samaras.

Rangers 4, St. Johnstone 0

Perth, Scotland - Rangers closed out a tumultuous campaign on Sunday with a 4-0 win at St Johnstone that saw Sone Aluko score three times in the victory.

St Johnstone entered Sunday's match with a chance to still claim a place in the Europa League, but the visitors took the game to them and brought a positive end to a disappointing season for the Glasgow side.

Lee McCulloch got Rangers off the mark midway through the opening half before Aluko took over from there, netting three second-half goals in less than 20 minutes to secure the comfortable win.

St Johnstone looked to be a good bet for a European place a few months ago, but Sunday's loss is the fifth straight for the club and sees them miss out on the Europa League.

Dundee United 2, Motherwell 0

Motherwell, Scotland - Motherwell was unable to send captain Stephen Craigan off on a winning note on Sunday as Dundee United handed the Steelmen a 2-0 defeat to close out the campaign.

Craigan announced his retirement earlier this week but could not help his team to a win in his final match as goals from Johnny Russell and Jon Daly helped United to the win.

The visitors took the lead after eight minutes when Motherwell goalkeeper Darren Randolph did well to deny Stuart Armstrong on two occasions, only for Russell to swoop in and bundle the ball over the goal line.

Russell turned provider with eight minutes to go as he set up a simple finish for Daly which gives him 19 goals on the campaign and leaves United in fourth place.
