Roma awarded three points for Cagliari postponement

Rome, Italy (Sports Network) - Roma has been handed three points for its match with Cagliari after the scheduled game between the two sides was postponed on Sunday.

The contest was set to take place at Cagliari's new stadium, Stadio Is Arenas, and was ordered to take place behind closed doors because the ground had yet to pass security tests.

However, the game was postponed after Cagliari president Massimo Cellino encouraged supporters to ignore the authorities and attend the match.

Roma director Franco Baldini requested that his team be awarded three points as a result of the postponement, and his request has now been granted by Serie A.

The league issued a statement saying that Cagliari would be sanctioned with a loss of 3-0, which means that Roma moves into fifth place on seven points while Cagliari sits one place above the relegation zone.
