Okazaki joins Mainz from Stuttgart

Mainz, Germany (Sports Network) - Japanese striker Shinji Okazaki completed a move from Stuttgart to Mainz on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old joined Stuttgart during the 2010-11 season from Japanese side Shimizu, and he scored four goals in 42 matches for the club in all competitions last season, although just 11 of his 25 appearances in the Bundesliga were starts.

"He is a skillful player who will be very important for the style of football we play," said Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel.

"He is very mindful of the team, is very flexible going forward, and is always dangerous in front of goal."

Okazaki has been capped 66 times by Japan and he joins Mainz on a three-year contract.
