Harnik lifts Stuttgart over Hoffenheim

Sinsheim, Germany (Sports Network) - Martin Harnik scored the only goal of the contest on Sunday and Stuttgart hung on for a narrow 1-0 win over Hoffenheim at the Rhein-Neckar Arena.

Stuttgart entered the match riding a five-game losing streak in Bundesliga play, having not won since a 3-1 decision over Mainz on Dec. 8, but the extended run of poor results finally came to an end thanks to Harnik.

The German midfielder gave his club the lead for good just three minutes into the game when he got his head to a well-placed cross from Ibrahima Traore and powered it past Hoffenheim goalkeeper Gomes.

After the goal, it was Hoffenheim that was on the front foot, controlling 63 percent of the ball and firing six shots in the direction of the Stuttgart net, but the equalizer never materialized for the hosts.

The result pushes Stuttgart up to 12th place with 28 points, while Hoffenheim remains glued to the bottom three with 16 points from 22 matches.

Nurnberg 2, Hannover 2

Nurnberg, Germany - Sebastian Polter's goal in second-half stoppage time gave Nurnberg a share of the points in a 2-2 draw with Hannover on Sunday at the Frankenstadion.

The visitors opened the scoring four minutes prior to halftime through Szabolcs Huszti, who collected a nice feed from Sergio da Silva Pinto and deposited it into the bottom-right corner of the net with a right-footed strike.

Nurnberg drew level in the 53rd minute when Timm Klose ran onto a cross from Hiroshi Kiyotake and powered a header past Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

Hannover went in front in the 68th minute through Didier Ya Konan, who beat Nurnberg goalkeeper Raphael Schafer with a right-footed shot into the bottom- right corner.

Hannover looked like it was going to hang on for all three points, but Polter made sure his side got a share of the spoils in the second minute of added time when he buried it from in close following a cross from Timothy Chandler.

Nurnberg remains in 14th place with 26 points, while Hannover wasted a chance to move into a Europa League qualifying position, remaining in eighth place on 30 points.
