Jets put Revis on IR
Florham Park, NJ (Sports Network) - Weeks after he was initially diagnosed with a torn ACL, Darrelle Revis is officially done for the season.
The New York Jets finally decided to place the All-Pro cornerback on the injured reserve list on Friday.
"Revis is going to be scheduled for surgery Thursday next week," said head coach Rex Ryan. "In the best interest of the organization and Darrelle, we will place him on IR."
Ryan had originally been hesitant to make the permanent roster move, holding out hope that Revis could return for a possible Super Bowl run. However, considering the current state of his injury-decimated team, Ryan felt he no longer had a choice.
"I know I've said before about Darrelle that I'd like to wait, but unfortunately with our time situation, with [safety] Eric Smith being out this week, we're going to need that roster spot.
In a corresponding roster move, the Jets signed safety Antonio Allen from the practice squad.
The Jets announced yesterday that defensive tackle Kendrick Ellis will be out 4-to-6 weeks after sustaining a significant knee injury in Monday night's loss to the Houston Texans.
In other injury-related news, defensive tackle Sione Po'uha (back), fullback John Conner (hamstring), and wide receiver Clyde Gates (shoulder) did not practice at all this week and are doubtful for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.
After not practicing Wednesday or Thursday, center Nick Mangold (ankle) returned to practice Friday but was limited and listed as questionable.
However, the Jets should see the return of two of their opening day starters on Sunday.
Wide receiver Stephen Hill and tight end Dustin Keller, both of whom have been suffering from hamstring injuries, practiced in a limited capacity this week and are listed as probable for Sunday.
Hill has missed the last two games, while Keller has been out for the previous four.
