Final Score: Northern Illinois 55, Central Michigan 24
DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Jordan Lynch threw for 215 yards and added 144 on the ground to lead the Northern Illinois Huskies to a 55-24 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas in a Mid-American Conference battle at Huskie Stadium.
Lynch completed only 14-of-32 pass attempts while throwing for a touchdown and running for another to lead NIU (4-1, 1-0 MAC). Leighton Settle ran for 152 yards and three scores as well for the Huskies, who have won 19 straight games at home.
Ryan Radcliff threw for 332 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while completing 20-of-39 pass attempts for Central Michigan (2-2, 0-1). Cody Wilson caught a game-high eight passes for 111 yards while Titus Davis had 92 yards and a touchdown on just one reception.
Settle ran the ball into the end zone from 11 yards out for the first score of the game to put NIU ahead 7-0.
The Huskies would add to that lead with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Lynch to Martel Moore.
A 37-yard touchdown pass from Radcliff to Zurlon Tipton at the end of the first quarter helped Central Michigan cut into the Huskies' lead.
Northern Illinois got a 43-yard field goal from Mathew Sims early in the second quarter to stretch its lead to 17-7.
Just under three minutes later Settle found the end zone again, this time on a six-yard run to further extend the Huskies' lead. Tipton answered for Central Michigan with a 13-yard run to pull the Chippewas within 10 before the half.
On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Radcliff hooked up with Davis on a 92-yard scoring strike to inch Central Michigan even closer.
Sims nailed a 20-yard field goal on the Huskies' next drive to put the score at 27-21 in favor of NIU.
Lynch scored on a nine-yard rush later in the third quarter as NIU extended its lead to 34-21. The Chippewas cut into that lead with a 42-yard field goal from David Harman on their next possession.
Sims scored on a fake field goal for NIU by rushing it in from seven yards out to put the Huskies up 41-24.
Settle scored on a 46-yard touchdown run and Keith Harris added a four-yard rushing score late in the fourth quarter as NIU pulled away for the win.
NIU out-gained Central Michigan by a 622-462 margin while converting on 8- of-16 third down attempts and 3-of-3 fourth downs.
