GAME NOTES: Atlantic 10 Conference play resumes on Wednesday night, as the Dayton Flyers host the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at UD Arena.
St. Bonaventure is riding a season-long, three-game win streak. The Bonnies scored a season-high for points in Saturday's 104-83 win over Charlotte. They'll wrap up the regular season this Saturday against Fordham.
Meanwhile, Dayton has won three of its last four contests. The Flyers were also in action over the weekend, as they posted a 78-74 home win over Richmond. Their final regular-season game will be this Saturday at George Washington.
UD had won nine straight meetings until the Bonnies snapped that streak with an 81-73 victory over the Flyers last January. Still, the Flyers lead the all- time series, 15-9.
The Bonnies moved into a tie for eighth place in the A-10 standings with their dominating win over Charlotte, and the top 12 teams make the conference tournament. It marked the fifth time this season the Bonnies never trailed in a game, as they knocked down 9-of-12 3-pointers in the first half to build a wide margin. The 104 points ties the most ever for an SCU squad against a current A-10 member. The Bonnies are averaging 101.5 points over their last two home games, but now they'll try and keep it going on the road. Eric Mosley and Matthew Wright were particularly hot from beyond the arc against Charlotte, as they combined to score 43 points and hit 8-of-12 triples. Demetrius Conger recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds to go along with seven assists. Conger is the team's leading scorer (13.9 ppg) and rebounder (7.2 rpg) on the season.
The Flyers also boast a potent weapon from long range in Kevin Dillard, a 39.2 percent 3-point shooter who leads the team in scoring with 15.0 ppg. Vee Sanford is next in line with 12.1 ppg followed by Josh Benson with 10.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per tilt. Benson is shooting 55.3 percent from the floor while averaging just over one block per game. Still, the Flyers' strength lies with their perimeter shooting, where they are 38.1 percent as a team. In the recent win over Richmond, Dillard poured in a team-high 21 points, while Devin Oliver was right on his heels with 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Oliver headlined UD's 32-19 rebounding advantage for the game, which included a 15-8 advantage on the offensive glass. The Flyers further helped their cause by making 20-of-24 free throws.
Both teams are playing well as the postseason looms. The Bonnies became the latest team to beat up on Charlotte, although they'll face a stiffer test here at the historically tough UD Arena.
