GAME NOTES: The Duquesne Dukes are still in search for their first conference victory as they travel across state borders to Ohio to play the Dayton Flyers in an Atlantic-10 showdown at the UD Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes have struggled throughout this season. The team's futility has now reached seven straight losses with a 73-64 setback to Saint Louis on Wednesday. The team is now just 7-12 overall, with an ugly 1-7 mark in- conference. The road has not been kind to Duquesne which is just 1-7 away from home this season.
The Flyers are fresh off a 96-51 whipping of Fordham on Wednesday, marking the largest margin of victory in a conference game in Dayton history. The victory also ended a three-game skein for the team, which is now 11-7 overall and gave the Flyers their first league win of the season.
Dayton leads the all-time series 45-21 after each team took a win against the other on the road last season.
In the loss to Saint Louis, Jerry Jones recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds for Duquesne. Derrick Colter posted 13 points, but it wasn't enough to prevent another loss for the Dukes. Sean Johnson has led the team in scoring this year with 13.6 ppg, while Colter has been just behind him with 13.4. The team shoots 41.5 percent from the field leading to 69.4 ppg, but allow opponents to score 74.5 ppg from 43.9 percent shooting. Of their last seven losses, four have come by 10 points or greater.
Against Fordham, the Flyers tied their school record for 3-pointers made in a game after shooting 15-of-21 from beyond the arc. Kevin Dillard was 5-of-6 from long range, leading the team with 22 points. Vee Sanford was 4-of-6 from long-range, adding 18 points, while Matt Derenbecker was 3-of-4 from 3-point range, tallying 11 points. The team averages 72.9 ppg, shooting 46.1 percent from the floor. Dillard leads the way, putting up 15.2 ppg. Sanford follows in second with 12.9 ppg, while Josh Benson adds 10.2. Devin Oliver just misses double-figure scoring at 9.7 ppg, but gives maximum effort on the boards (second in the A-10 at 8.5 rpg). Four players shoot over 50.0 percent from 3- point range in conference play in Khari Price (66.7 percent), Dyshawn Pierre (62.5 percent), Dillard (56.5 percent), and Derenbecker (53.8 percent).
The Dukes are in a slump that they will not find a way out of at UD Arena. The Flyers' offense is coming off a great performance and will look to roll it into this game to keep Duquesne winless in the Atlantic 10.
Sportsnetwork Projected Outcome: Dayton 79, Duquesne 62
