Bourdais earns provisional pole in Cleveland

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Three-time Champ Car Series champion Sebastien Bourdais topped the list in Friday's provisional qualifying at the Burke Lakefront Airport road course. The No.1 Newman/Haas/Lanigan driver circled the 2.106-mile, temporary road course in 56.961 seconds (133.102 m.p.h.).

The provisional pole win earned the current points lead one championship point and a guaranteed position on the front row. His lead is now 12 points over Will power (106-94).

Second best on Friday was Power (57.301) followed by Simon Pagenaud (57.338), Justin Wilson (57.427) and Neel Jani (57.535).

Since finishing 13th in the season opener in at Las Vegas, Bourdais has put together a string of three wins. He has done so in dominating fashion, leading 58 of 78 laps in Long Beach, 62 of 93 in Houston and 48 of 103 laps in Portland.

Last week, while most of the Champ Car Series was "back at the shop," Bourdais was entering and finishing second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He also made 142 laps testing for the Formula One Toro Rosso team. He will make a third test for the team in July.

Final qualifying is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. (et) with the race set to drop the green flag at 1 p.m. (et).
