Final Score: Portland 4, Toronto 0
Portland, OR (Sports Network) - The Portland Timbers enjoyed a late rally to rout Toronto FC, 4-0, at Jeld-Wen Field on Saturday.
Portland (10-5-12) claims just its second win in its last eight league outings to climb to 42 points while Toronto (4-13-10) sees its winless run extended to five games, leaving the Canadian club on just 22 points.
It looked as though the two sides would head into the halftime interval scoreless, but the Timbers managed to claim the edge in the first minute of stoppage time.
Toronto failed to properly clear a speculative cross played into the box, and Kalif Alhassan took advantage by collecting the ball and promptly hammering a volley past Joe Bendik and into the upper corner.
Portland doubled its lead seven minutes from full time when Rodney Wallace received a poke from Diego Valeri and slipped home a left-footed strike from the center of the box.
Will Johnson made it three for the Timbers in the 87th minute when he took a square pass from Jose Valencia and slotted a shot past Bendik, and Valeri added insult to injury in stoppage time by poking home Valencia's cross to the back post.
