Bridgeview, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Union snatched a 1-1
draw against the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park on Saturday as Sebastien Le Toux
converted a penalty kick in stoppage time to help the Union claim a point.
Jeff Larentowicz handed the Fire the lead on the hour mark, but a questionable
penalty decision in the 90th minute went against the Fire, allowing Le Toux to
fire home the equalizer, which forced Chicago to settle for its third draw in
Both teams had a good chance from a corner kick in the first half, but Sheanon
Williams headed just wide for the Union in the 35th before Larentowicz headed
a great opportunity over the net from six yards after Harrison Shipp's corner
But Larentowicz atoned for that miss on the hour mark when he was left
unmarked in the middle of the penalty area, allowing him to turn a header past
goalkeeper Zac MacMath.
Maurice Edu wasted a good chance for the Union 20 minutes from time when he
fired well wide from a dangerous position inside the penalty area after Le
Toux set him up with a pass from the end line.
However, the Union continued to press and were rewarded in the closing stages
when a shot from Le Toux struck the arm of Chicago defender Gonzalo Segares,
who was harshly called for a handball despite being just in front of Le Toux.
The Union forward made the most of the opportunity as he stepped to the spot
and fired his effort just inside the left post despite goalkeeper Sean Johnson
getting a piece of the ball.
